The latest plan Congress has passed will be challenged by 13 states, including Florida. The suit to the supreme court is suggesting the new law requires the American people purchase a product, even if they do not want it.

Sadly, they are right. The new law passed requires all Americans to have health insurance, and like any other insurance, it is a product. That means the government is essentially saying, “This product is very expensive, everyone should need it, so everyone must buy it.” That sounds good until you start looking at what else would qualify for that sentence.

Just the other day I bought some milk and started wondering to myself, “What if this was too expensive, will they go ahead and provide that next?” Probably this isn’t going to happen, but I had to re-write this sentence from “obviously” to “probably.” This is not the place of government, it wasn’t made to make things cheaper for us. They need to step in and look at where the loss is, where the high costs come from.

To be fair, if you do not have the money for milk, everyone else does not have to pay for it right now, whereas if you have an illness everyone else is forced to pay for your coverage, hospitals cannot turn anyone away, with or without coverage. It does beg the question though, if the government mandates you buy a product now, what will they mandate you buy in the future?

The Democratic party came into office as the party of “change” and they are definitely performing that way, my question is how many of you voted for him, and regret it now? Was this the change that they were even talking about?

Often the politicians who talk about health care the most believe in the Hippocratic Oath the least. Barack Obama falls into this category. He promises that his health care plan will protect the weak and vulnerable. This would be a little bit more credible if his policies weren’t already killing and exploiting them.

He considers aborting unborn children “health care,” has authorized the use of tax dollars for the exploitation of embryos in lab experiments, and his Department of Health and Human Services is now pushing the grotesque practice of harvesting organs from urgent-care patients in emergency rooms.

According to the Washington Post, taxpayers are now financing, via a $321,000 HHS grant, a pilot program at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center-Presbyterian Hospital and Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh to obtain organs from emergency room patients, a practice heretofore “considered off-limits in the United States because of ethical and logistical concerns.”

The goal of the project, reports the paper, is to “investigate whether it is feasible and, if so, to encourage other hospitals nationwide to follow.”

By Aaron Deslatte Orlando Sentinel Tallahassee Bureau

2:50 p.m. EST, February 3, 2010

TALLAHASSEE – For the past year, Delmar Johnson mixed and mingled with the well-heeled and powerful, chasing checks from large Republican donors from fishing piers in Key West to a football stadium in Boston.

But even as the economy soured and GOP fundraising lagged, Johnson earned more than perhaps any party leader in Florida history — at least $408,000 as executive director and chief fundraiser for the Republican Party of Florida. His total pay was more than triple what party chairman Jim Greer made.

Nearly $200,000 of that came through a contract signed by Greer and Johnson naming Johnson as the party’s chief fundraiser. That contract was apparently never divulged even to senior members of the party’s executive committee.

Anger over the party’s flailing finances prompted an unusual combination of grass-roots activists and big-ticket donors to force Greer’s resignation last month. And that was before party elders knew of Johnson’s fundraising contract – and his outsized earnings.

Now a number of prominent donors are coming forward to complain they were kept in the dark about the contract, and they want Johnson to refund what he was paid.

“Obviously, that is absolutely unconscionable compensation, and it was done in a way to obfuscate or hide the intent,” said Al Hoffman, a former Republican National Committee finance chair and one of the state’s largest developers and GOP check-writers.

“I don’t think in history any party chairman would have allowed their executive director to earn that kind of stash.”

Greer, who did not return calls to his cell phone and to the state party, will be replaced in a party election scheduled for Feb. 20. Johnson, whose last day was Monday, was one of 19 staffers laid off last month.

Word of Johnson’s pay has been spreading through the halls of the Capitol this week. State Sen. John Thrasher, R-St. Augustine, who is running to replace Greer, called Johnson’s compensation “a gross overpayment.

“It sends exactly the wrong message to the people who we want to participate in the Republican Party,” he said. “It’s not going to happen again.”

Last Friday, President Obama met with House Republicans in Baltimore. He took questions, parried criticisms, and allowed all of it to be put on television.

Framed as an opportunity for the president to hear from the other side, Mr. Obama’s real aim was to portray Republicans as obstructionist and boost his own public standing in the process.

Afterward, Gallup found that Mr. Obama’s approval hit 51%, up from 47% after the State of the Union address two days earlier. But in winning that small victory, Mr. Obama also further poisoned his relationship with Republicans by repeatedly saying things that are demonstrably not true.

For example, when Texas Rep. Jeb Hensarling asked if the president’s new budget would, “like your old budget, triple the national debt” and increase “the cost of government to almost 25% of the economy,” Mr. Obama denied it. But that’s exactly what Mr. Obama proposed doing in his budget framework that Congress passed last April, according to both Congressional Budget Office and White House documents.

The fast-rising Mississippi River has triggered restrictions designed to protect levee stability by prohibiting digging, demolition and all types of subsurface construction within 1,500 feet of the levees, unless the Army Corps of Engineers and district levee officials give special, written permission.

The prohibition applies to work on residential, commercial and industrial sites and includes everything from digging ditches, swimming pools and wells to taking soil borings, and driving pilings.

Neither government employees nor contractors doing work under public contracts are exempt from the restriction, which kicked in late Wednesday as the river hit 11 feet at the Carrollton gauge in New Orleans and kept climbing.

The river is expected to crest at 14 1/2 feet on Feb. 12, according to the National Weather Service.

Winter rises are common events, but the water has been higher than normal.

“Throughout December, we were seeing near-historic highs for that time of the year,” said Corps spokesman Ricky Boyett.

TALLAHASSEE – Republican U.S. Senate candidate Marco Rubio has come out against including illegal immigrants in the national census — even though doing so could significantly reduce Florida’s political power and share of federal funding.

Rubio’s stance sets him at odds not only with Gov. Charlie Crist, but also with Republicans in the Florida Legislature who are cranking up efforts to track down and find every resident who lives in the state.

Rubio’s opposition is largely theoretical — the census has already started and illegals are being counted — but it reflects his efforts to appeal to hard-line conservatives in the contest against the more moderate Crist.

The census will have vast political and financial ramifications for the state, with some estimates suggesting that Florida may pick up additional seats in Congress after it is finished.

A Census Bureau representative said on Tuesday that $400 billion in federal aid is determined by formulas that rely on population numbers derived from the census.

When asked whether illegal immigrants should count on things like the number of seats that Florida should have in Congress, Rubio initially said last week that he was not sure and that he wanted to “research it more.”

Lately conservative leadership has surfaced with a new idea about how they can ease the suffering that change causes for their fearful conservative flock. I call it rewrite therapy. It is where they create an alternative reality by rewriting or erasing historical events that cause them anxiety. It began with the Conservative Bible Project. That is a project aimed at removing from the Bible anything that conservatives regard as liberal bias. For example, the oddballs working on this project tell us that liberals changed the ancient wording of the Bible in such a way that free market thinking was distorted with wording that promotes concepts of socialism. They want to see words like laborer and fellow worker and comrade yanked from the Bible. That is change they can believe in.
